Limnophila aquatica is a true beauty from Asia, ideal for transforming the bottom of your aquarium into a bushy green bush . This stem plant, sold in an in vitro version, is distinguished by its light green feathery leaves and its rapid growth. Perfect for dressing the background or the background, it grows up to 50 cm under the right conditions. With strong lighting and rich soil, it becomes dense and decorative. It can even flower in an open tank with pretty little blue flowers. An asset for all those who want a natural, lively and balanced aquarium, without spending hours taking care of it. It is the plant touch that makes it stand out.

Native to Southeast Asia, Limnophila aquatica is a stem plant that impresses with its structure and rapid growth. Its delicately branched leaves give it the appearance of a small aquatic pine, which is very pleasing to the eye. It can reach up to 50 cm in height , with strong, thick stems of a bright green. As it grows, it forms a dense vegetation, perfect for structuring the bottom of the tank, camouflaging technical elements or creating a shaded area for fish.
For best results, it is recommended to plant it in groups, well spaced (6-7 cm between each stem), so that light reaches the base and prevents thinning. The plant adapts well to slightly acidic water (pH 5 to 7) and prefers a rich nutrient substrate . It also does well with liquid nutrients , especially if you want intense colors and explosive growth.
Limnophila aquatica is known for its ability to grow quickly, very quickly. It's not just a visual treat: it absorbs a large amount of nitrates, making it a natural ally against algae. Under good lighting (12-13 hours/day), it thickens horizontally, producing numerous lateral shoots. And as a bonus, if your tank is not covered, it can emerge from the water and produce pretty, discreet but charming blue flowers .
However, it is a little fragile when faced with unruly fish and does not like strong currents. Prefer a medium flow and avoid getting it covered in residue. Regular filter cleaning can really help keep its leaves clean and in good shape. Like any stem plant, it appreciates regular pruning: the cut heads can then be replanted, which makes it easy to multiply your plants.
Propagation is simple by cutting: remove heads at least 10-15 cm long with a sharp tool, then replant them directly into the soil. The plant also sometimes produces shoots from the roots, which further facilitates its development. In emerged conditions, such as in a paludarium or humid aqua-terrarium, it completely changes shape, with thicker foliage, and can even flower more regularly.
Depending on the light intensity, temperature, or water quality, its appearance can vary: the stronger the lighting, the more the tips take on a reddish tint and the plant becomes bushy. It is a living plant, both literally and figuratively. Even at night, it offers a little spectacle: its leaves gently close on themselves, as if to rest. A beautiful touch of nature for well-lit, calm tanks with a good balance of bacteria .
