The RED SEA ReefSense Digital pH and Temperature Probe allows for continuous monitoring of two essential parameters in a marine or reef aquarium. Compatible with ReefControl Lite and ReefControl Pro controllers, it simultaneously measures pH and temperature with high accuracy, while also displaying real-time data, sending notifications, and recording historical data. Its dual-junction design with two external ceramic junctions enhances its durability, while automatic temperature compensation helps ensure reliable pH measurements. It can also be integrated into ReefControl automation systems to control a heater, fan, or solenoid valve based on the measured values.
pH and temperature are among the most important parameters to monitor in a reef aquarium. The RED SEA ReefSense probe combines these two measurements in a single device to simplify daily monitoring and reduce the number of sensors needed in the sump.
Once connected to a ReefControl Lite or ReefControl Pro , it continuously transmits measured values to the system. The user can then monitor pH and temperature changes throughout the day, identify unusual variations, and maintain a history of measurements.
The pH probe incorporates automatic temperature compensation , which improves the consistency of measurements when water temperature varies. This feature is particularly useful in a reef aquarium, where the pH can naturally fluctuate between day and night.
The probe boasts an accuracy of 0.05 pH and a reading resolution of 0.01 pH, which allows for fine monitoring of tank variations and observation of trends in much greater detail than with a simple spot measurement.
The pH electrode uses a double-junction architecture with two external ceramic junctions. This design aims to better isolate the internal electrolyte from the external environment and limit electrode contamination over time.
In a marine aquarium, where dissolved salts and deposits can put significant stress on the sensors, this structure offers a real advantage in terms of longevity and stability. It allows for more consistent measurements when the probe is properly maintained and calibrated.
The ReefSense probe is not limited to pH. It also integrates a digital temperature measurement , with a claimed accuracy of 0.05 °C. This dual function allows two essential parameters to be combined on a single sensor.
Continuous temperature monitoring allows for the rapid detection of temperature fluctuations, heating system malfunctions, or excessive increases during hot periods. The data is recorded within the ReefControl ecosystem, enabling visualization of variations throughout the day.
Connected to a ReefControl controller, the probe allows for real-time monitoring of pH and temperature . The measured data can be viewed remotely and recorded as historical data, facilitating the analysis of changes over several hours or days.
The system can also send notifications when a value falls outside the defined range. This feature allows for a faster response to abnormally high temperatures, unusual drops in pH, or unexpected system behavior.
The ReefSense probe can be used with a Bluetooth Low Energy connection for certain monitoring and calibration operations. pH calibration can thus be performed in a guided manner from within the Red Sea ecosystem, simplifying regular sensor maintenance.
Periodic calibration remains essential to maintain reliable measurements over time. Digital monitoring facilitates this process and makes it easier to verify the consistency of values after calibration.
When combined with a ReefControl Power system , temperature measurement can be used to automatically control mains-powered heating. The system can then activate or deactivate the equipment based on predefined thresholds.
This automation allows thermal regulation to be integrated directly into the ReefControl ecosystem, while benefiting from real-time monitoring and notifications available on the same interface.
Temperature measurement can also be used to control compatible DC equipment, such as a cooling fan . When the water exceeds the programmed temperature, the ReefControl can automatically activate the cooling system.
Once the temperature returns to the desired range, the equipment can be switched off. This automatic regulation is particularly useful during hot periods and avoids the need for manual intervention several times a day.
The pH measured by the probe can also be used as a trigger for certain automated systems. Depending on the installed equipment and the ReefControl configuration, the system can control compatible DC devices, such as certain solenoid valves , based on defined pH thresholds.
This possibility allows pH measurement to be integrated into a more advanced regulation logic, while maintaining continuous monitoring and traceability of values in the application.
In a reef aquarium, the pH naturally varies throughout the day due to photosynthesis, respiration, and gas exchange. A single measurement only shows a specific moment, whereas a connected probe allows you to visualize the entire daily curve .
This monitoring helps to better understand the functioning of the tank and to spot unusual deviations, for example a significant nighttime drop or a pH that remains permanently outside the usual range.
The ReefSense digital pH and temperature probe is designed to work with the RED SEA ReefControl Lite and ReefControl Pro . It is also included in some complete setups, notably with the ReefControl Lite, ReefControl Pro and ReefControl Pro Deluxe kit, depending on the version offered.
It therefore integrates naturally into an installation already equipped with the ReefSense, ReefControl and ReefBeat ecosystem, without requiring an independent measurement system.
The Aquarium Systems hydrometer allows you to accurately measure the density of seawater at a lower cost.
The seawater refractometer offers exceptional accuracy because it uses a specific algorithm developed to measure the absolute salinity of seawater at a temperature of 25°C.
