An 800W infrared heater for very large aquariums

The AQUA-MEDIC 800W Ceramic Infrared Heater was developed to meet the heating needs of large-capacity systems. With a recommended operating range of 1,500 to 2,500 liters , it is ideally suited for large freshwater aquariums, large marine setups, or reef systems with significant water volumes.

Instead of relying solely on the conventional principle of a concentrated heating element in a tube, AQUA-MEDIC utilizes a large ceramic heating surface . The 800W power is thus distributed over a much wider area, allowing for the gradual transfer of thermal energy to the water and the aquarium environment.

Infrared technology inspired by the sun's natural heat

The Ceramic Infrared Heater operates using infrared radiation inspired by the sun's natural thermal spectrum . This principle allows heat to be diffused through the water, reaching the various elements within the aquarium.

AQUA-MEDIC presents this technology as a way to create a thermal environment favorable to fish, invertebrates, corals, and aquatic plants . The manufacturer states that infrared radiation can support natural metabolic processes and contribute to the vitality of organisms kept in the aquarium.

In a very large volume of water, thermal stability becomes particularly important. The larger the system, the more advantageous it becomes to have a heating system capable of distributing its energy over a wide area rather than concentrating it around a single point.

Even heat distribution throughout the different areas of the tray

In an aquarium of 1,500 to 2,500 liters, the large size, the decorations, and the different water flow zones can cause slight temperature variations. The Ceramic Infrared Heater was designed to promote even heat distribution throughout the water and around any obstacles .

According to AQUA-MEDIC, infrared radiation passes through the water and also allows the various elements of the decor to gradually absorb the heat. Rocks, reef structures, roots, and other elements present in the tank then contribute to a more general heat distribution.

This technology does not, of course, replace a properly sized water circulation system. Good water circulation remains essential in a large aquarium to distribute heat and achieve the most consistent temperature possible between different zones.

A very large ceramic surface to diffuse the 800 watts

The 800W version is distinguished by a particularly generous ceramic surface of 293 x 160 mm . Despite this large surface area, the heater retains a thickness of approximately 16 mm , giving it a very flat profile relative to its power output.

This design allows the 800 watts of power to be distributed over a wider area. The heat is therefore less concentrated than with a small, traditional heating element, which promotes a gradual transfer of heat to the surrounding water.

Ceramic is used for its stability and its ability to efficiently transmit heat. Here, it forms a central element in the heating system's operation, complementing the infrared radiation developed by AQUA-MEDIC.

Up to 30% more efficient thanks to infrared technology

AQUA-MEDIC announces that its infrared technology can achieve up to 30% greater efficiency compared to traditional heating methods . The goal is to improve the use of energy produced through the combination of infrared radiation and a large heat exchange surface.

In an aquarium of several thousand liters, heating can represent a significant electricity consumption, especially during cold periods. More efficient heat distribution is therefore essential when it comes to maintaining several hundred or even thousands of liters of water at a stable temperature.

A heater compatible with both fresh and salt water

The AQUA-MEDIC Ceramic Infrared Heater 800W can be used in both freshwater and marine aquariums . It is therefore suitable for a wide range of setups: large community aquariums, large fish tanks, marine systems, or very large reef aquariums.

Its recommended range of 1,500 to 2,500 litres allows it to cover installations where a conventional low-power heater would become insufficient or would require the installation of several devices.

The final sizing must nevertheless take into account the actual volume of water, the room temperature, the desired temperature in the aquarium and any heat losses related to the system.

Dry-run protection and IPX8 design

To improve operational safety, the Ceramic Infrared Heater incorporates dry-run protection . This safety feature activates when the heater is accidentally disconnected from the water, for example, due to a drop in the water level or during maintenance work on the installation.

The model also benefits from an IPX8 protection rating and accepts a maximum immersion depth of 1000 mm . It is therefore designed to operate submerged in the aquarium environment, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

An external temperature regulator is essential

The Ceramic Infrared Heater is a heating element that must be used with an external temperature controller . AQUA-MEDIC specifies that its heaters in this range are not designed to control the water temperature themselves.

The controller continuously monitors the aquarium temperature and controls the heater's power supply. When the temperature drops below the set value, it activates the heater; when the set temperature is reached, it cuts off the power. This regulation is essential to maintain a stable temperature and prevent continuous heating.

AQUA-MEDIC specifically recommends the optional use of the T controller twin 2.0 to ensure this automatic temperature management.

Installation is made easy thanks to its flat design and suction cup mount.

Despite its high power output, the heater maintains a relatively compact size with dimensions of approximately 293 x 160 x 16 mm . Its shallow depth makes it easy to integrate against a wall or in a suitable technical area.

A suction cup mount is included with the Ceramic Infrared Heater for easy positioning. The power cord is approximately 1.5 meters long, providing ample length to reach the temperature controller or electrical outlet near the aquarium.

Its power supply is compatible with a voltage between 100 and 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz , while its advertised operating range extends from -10 to +40 °C.
