The essential but discreet role of copper in reef aquariums

In reef environments, copper is often perceived as an enemy due to its toxicity at high doses. However, it is a trace element essential for certain biological processes. In marine fish, for example, it is involved in iron assimilation and the function of certain enzymes. In other organisms, it may have an influence on calcium metabolism or the immune response.

In well-balanced reef tanks, the ideal copper concentration is extremely low, often at the detection limit of ICP tests. But when these analyses reveal a zero or deficient value, targeted and controlled supplementation like that offered by ATI becomes an asset for restoring optimal balance without taking risks.

A minimalist but essential dosage for a fine balance

The 150 ml bottle contains 15,000 µg of copper , allowing for precise and safe intake. Each milliliter increases the copper level by 1 µg/l per 100 liters of water , but the recommended dosage is only 0.5 ml / 100 L per day to avoid excess. This precise control makes all the difference in an environment as sensitive as the reef, where copper can quickly go from beneficial to dangerous if mismanaged.
