At night, it is advantageous to have an air pump for the aquarium, because plants do not produce oxygen without light. In sparsely planted aquariums, the pump provides the necessary water circulation.
In heavily planted aquariums, the air pump supplies the aquarium with oxygen at night, because the presence of many plants can cause the oxygen level to drop dangerously. In case of illnesses, the air pump increases the oxygen content in the water, which is necessary when using many medications.

Air pump protection
The ProSilent Safe backflow protection is TÜV-tested (German inspection) and in particular protects devices such as diaphragm pumps from rising water in the aquarium.
