The role of zinc in reef aquariums
Zinc is a trace element naturally present in seawater , at very low concentrations (µg/L). Despite these minute values, it plays a role in numerous enzymatic reactions and contributes to the overall biological functioning of the reef.
In a modern reef aquarium, biological consumption, protein skimming, export (resins, activated carbon, water changes), and adsorption onto surfaces can gradually reduce its availability. Maintaining consistent levels helps preserve a stable environment , particularly in demanding and heavily stocked tanks.

A simple, direct and controlled formulation
The Zoanthus Lab – Zinc solution is prepared from zinc sulfate heptahydrate ( ZnSO4 · 7H2O ) , dissolved in purified water (RO/DI).
No chelating agent is added. This deliberate approach promotes accurate ICP readings and avoids potential interference from complexed forms. The raw material is selected to pharmaceutical grade to ensure a stable, clean, and perfectly reproducible solution from batch to batch.

Concentration and dosage
The solution is formulated according to a precise protocol:
- Concentration: 1.0 mg/mL of zinc (elemental Zn)
- Recommended dosage: 1 mL per 100 L of water
- Effect: +10 µg/L of zinc
- Correction advice: do not increase zinc by more than 3 µg/L per day.
Supplementation should always be based on a recent ICP analysis . Since zinc is active at very low concentrations, it is preferable to make adjustments in small increments and then recheck levels rather than aiming for a sudden increase.

Usage and storage instructions
Add to a well-circulated area of the aquarium or to the sump. Shake well before use.
Store away from light, between 15 and 25 °C. Recommended shelf life: 12 months after manufacture.

- Keep out of reach of children! Do not swallow! Do not ingest.
- Not suitable for animal feed.
- In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
As with any trace element, excessive supplementation is unnecessary and can unbalance the water. Regular monitoring via ICP analysis remains the most reliable method for maintaining a stable aquarium in the long term.
