The role of selenium in reef aquariums
Selenium is a trace element naturally present in seawater , at extremely low concentrations (on the order of µg/L). Despite these minute values, it plays an important biological role in many cellular processes, particularly in metabolism and certain enzymatic functions.
In a reef aquarium, biological consumption, removal via protein skimming, and water changes can gradually lead to a decrease in this parameter. Regular monitoring helps maintain a stable balance and prevent any drift invisible to the naked eye.

A simple, direct and controlled formulation
The Zoanthus Lab – Selenium solution is prepared from selenium dioxide ( SeO2 ) , dissolved in purified water (RO/DI).
The product is formulated with pharmaceutical-grade raw materials, guaranteeing a pure, stable solution perfectly suited for ICP analysis. No chelating agents are added to ensure accurate readings and avoid any interference from complexed forms.

Concentration and dosage
The solution is formulated according to a precise protocol:
- Concentration: 0.1 mg/mL of selenium (elemental Se)
- Recommended dosage: 1 mL per 100 L of water
- Effect: +1 µg/L of selenium
- Correction limit: do not increase selenium by more than 1 µg/L per day.
Supplementation should always be based on a recent ICP analysis . Selenium is an active element at very low concentrations, so excessive dosage is unnecessary and can disrupt the reef ecosystem.

Usage and storage instructions
Add to a well-circulated area of the aquarium or to the sump. Shake well before use.
Store away from light, between 15 and 25°C. Recommended shelf life: 12 months after manufacture.

- Not suitable for animal feed.
- In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
