The role of barium in reef aquariums
Barium is an element present in trace amounts in seawater , generally expressed in µg/L. In reef aquariums, it is mainly monitored via ICP analyses to verify the overall consistency of the water chemistry, particularly when seeking to maintain a stable and controlled environment over the long term.
In a modern aquarium, certain trace elements can fluctuate due to skimming, adsorption, water changes, salt additions, or the use of filter media. A sensible approach is to correct only if a deficiency is confirmed and to proceed with gradual adjustments to avoid any imbalances.

A simple, direct and controlled formulation
The Zoanthus Lab – Barium solution is prepared from barium chloride dihydrate (BaCl 2 ·2H 2 O) , dissolved in purified water (RO/DI).
No chelating agents are added. The choice of a deliberately simple inorganic formulation ensures a stable solution and accurate ICP readings , free from interference caused by complexed forms. The raw materials used are of pharmaceutical grade to guarantee a clean and reproducible composition.

Concentration and dosage
The solution is formulated according to a precise protocol:
- Concentration: 2.0 mg/mL of barium (elemental Ba)
- Recommended dosage: 1 mL per 100 L of water
- Effect: +20 µg/L of barium
- Correction limit: do not increase barium by more than 5 µg/L per day.
Supplementation should always be based on a recent ICP analysis . As with all trace elements, the goal is not to "dose randomly," but to correct precisely , then recheck to validate stability.

Usage and storage instructions
Add to a well-circulated area of the aquarium or to the sump. Shake well before use.
Store away from light, between 15 and 25 °C. Recommended shelf life: 12 months after manufacture.

- Not suitable for animal feed.
- In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
