The role of nickel in reef aquariums
Nickel is a trace element present in very low concentrations in natural seawater (on the order of µg/L). Although it is required in minute quantities, it plays a role in certain bacterial enzymatic reactions and indirectly participates in the biological cycles of the aquarium.
In a modern reef aquarium, powerful protein skimming, chemical filtration, and biological consumption can lead to a gradual decrease in certain trace elements. A concentration that is too low can disrupt the overall balance of the system, especially in tanks with high biological density.

A simple, pure and controlled formulation
The Zoanthus Lab – Nickel solution is prepared from nickel(II) sulfate hexahydrate ( NiSO4 · 6H2O ) dissolved in purified water (RO/DI).
The raw material used is of pharmaceutical grade , guaranteeing optimal purity and excellent reproducibility of concentration. No chelating agents are added, in order to maintain a simple inorganic form that is perfectly detectable and consistent in ICP analysis.

Concentration and dosage
The solution is formulated according to a precise protocol:
- Concentration: 0.4 mg/mL of nickel (elemental Ni)
- Recommended dosage: 1 ml per 100 L of water
- Effect: +4 µg/L of nickel
- Correction limit: do not increase nickel by more than 4 µg/L per day.
Supplementation should always be based on a recent ICP analysis . Trace elements require gradual and measured adjustments to maintain the biological stability of the tank.

Usage and storage instructions
Add to a well-circulated area of the aquarium or to the sump. Shake well before use.
Store away from light, between 15 and 25 °C. Recommended shelf life: 12 months after manufacture.

- Keep out of reach of children! Do not swallow! Do not ingest.
- Not suitable for animal feed.
- In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
As with any trace element, excessive supplementation is unnecessary and can unbalance the water. Regular monitoring via ICP analysis remains the most reliable method for maintaining a stable aquarium in the long term.
