The role of strontium in reef aquariums
Strontium is a naturally occurring element in seawater , generally around 7 to 9 mg/L. It shares some chemical properties with calcium and is partially integrated into the calcareous structures formed by hard corals (SPS, LPS), giant clams and other calcifying organisms.
In a modern reef aquarium, biological consumption, skimming, and removal through water changes can gradually decrease its concentration. Maintaining consistent values helps preserve a stable ionic environment , particularly in tanks with rapid coral growth.

A simple, direct and controlled formulation
The Zoanthus Lab – Strontium solution is prepared from strontium chloride hexahydrate (SrCl 2 ·6H 2 O) , dissolved in purified water (RO/DI).
No chelating agent is added. At this concentration, strontium is naturally soluble and stable in its inorganic form. This deliberate choice ensures accurate ICP readings and avoids any interference from complexed forms.

Concentration and dosage
The solution is formulated according to a precise protocol:
- Concentration: 50 mg/mL of strontium (elemental Sr)
- Recommended dosage: 1 mL per 100 L of water
- Effect: +0.5 mg/L of strontium
- Correction limit: do not increase strontium by more than 2 mg/L per day.
Supplementation should always be based on a recent ICP analysis . In cases of significant deficiency, dividing the correction over several days helps avoid any sudden changes in parameters.

Usage and storage instructions
Add to a well-circulated area of the aquarium or to the sump. Shake well before use.
Store away from light, between 15 and 25 °C. Recommended shelf life: 12 months after manufacture.

- Keep out of reach of children! Do not swallow! Do not ingest.
- Not suitable for animal feed.
- In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.
As with any trace element, excessive supplementation is unnecessary and can unbalance the water. Regular monitoring via ICP analysis remains the most reliable method for maintaining a stable aquarium in the long term.
