Nitrites, components of the nitrogen cycle, are produced by the bacterial oxidation of ammonium. They occur naturally in soil, water, and plants, generally in small quantities. They also originate from industrial waste. Toxic to fish in small amounts, nitrites are strictly controlled in fish farming and aquariums. Harmful to human health, their levels should also be measured in drinking water. Portable and lightweight, this mini-photometer provides simple and quick measurements. The HI707 measures nitrous nitrogen (NO2-N). To obtain the nitrite equivalent (NO2), multiply the result by 3.29.
