Unlike chemical kits, which rely on visual observation to assess color changes, offering limited accuracy and resolution, professional instruments use light sources such as LED or tungsten lamps combined with a filter and light detector to accurately measure ion concentrations. While these professional instruments are highly accurate, their cost can be several hundred dollars. The HANNA® Wide Range Silica Photometer incorporates a silicon photoelectric detector and a fixed wavelength, combining the accuracy of a professional instrument with an affordable cost comparable to a chemical test kit.
