Riccardia chamedryfolia , also known as "Mini Pellia", is a little marvel for aquascaping enthusiasts. Offered here in an in vitro version by Tropica , this liverwort moss is distinguished by its dense, coral-like texture that brings a touch of sophisticated naturalness to any aquarium. Ideal for dressing roots, rocks or shaded areas of the decor, it forms pretty, compact green cushions . Its slow growth makes it easy to maintain , perfect for those who want style without spending their weekends pruning. Although tolerant, it thrives with good lighting and a little boost of CO2. A valuable ally for structuring a refined and organic aquatic decor.

Riccardia chamedryfolia is a liverwort moss native to Asia, also found in many temperate regions of Europe and North America. In the aquarium world, it is highly valued for its unique appearance, often compared to miniature coral, hence its nickname "coral moss." This delicate yet structured appearance makes it a perfect candidate for adding detail and depth to hardscapes, particularly by hanging it from an aquarium root or integrating it between two rocks.
It forms small, very dense, dark green clumps , which give a mature and natural look to the tank. It does not usually exceed 3 to 5 cm in height , which makes it an ideal option for creating carpets or to highlight certain elements of the decor. Its "moose antler" shape, with the ends curved at 90 °, adds a truly unique dimension. It can be integrated into an aquascape by gluing it, tying it with wire or simply wedging it into a crack in a rock .
In terms of maintenance, it grows slowly, which is perfect for those who don't want to bother with frequent pruning. It prefers fairly strong light , although it can survive in more moderate conditions. A CO2 system is not essential, but recommended to encourage good growth and prevent it from being smothered by other mosses or algae. The ideal water will have a pH of 6.5 to 9 , a temperature around 22°C (although it tolerates up to 28°C), and a GH hardness of 2 to 15.
This moss is not fussy, but it is unpredictable in very high temperatures. It prefers quiet areas of the tank , with little current, and a good dose of nutrients to boost its shape. In aquariums, it is often used to create small islands on hardscape, and its particular style quickly gives the illusion of a well-established tank.

In nature, Riccardia chamedryfolia grows on moist soils or on stream banks in forests. It is found almost everywhere: Europe, Russia, China, Japan, North America, and even as far away as North Africa and Iceland. This moss is accustomed to shaded environments, rich in organic matter. In aquariums, it maintains this preference: bright but diffused light, good stability, and regular filter cleaning to prevent particles from suffocating it.
Be careful not to confuse it with other species sold under the same name. What you often find commercially is an Asian version, labeled Riccardia sp. “chamedryfolia,” also called “Mini Pellia.” That said, this version is very popular for its aesthetics and robustness. If you're looking for a natural effect, a fine structure, and an easy-to-manage decorative moss , you've found your ideal candidate. With a little care, it will quickly become a highlight of your aquarium.
