The ROYAL NATURE royal magnesium test will allow you to accurately determine the magnesium content of the water in your saltwater aquarium. The magnesium test is designed to be easy to use and read . One box can perform around 50 analyses .
Each kit will give you 50 tests.
We recommend that you do the calcium test first.
1. Using the 3ml syringe, add 2ml of Mg-1 to the test vial.
2. Add a 0.15ml flat scoop of Mg-2 powder to the test vial and swirl.
The solution should be purple in color.
3. Using the 1ml syringe, firmly place the plastic tip and draw water from the aquarium until the lower end of the black rubber of the syringe is on the mark of 1.00ml. Before this step, make sure that the plastic tip is empty of any liquid and that it is submerged in water the entire time to prevent air from entering the syringe.
- The presence of a layer of air between the liquid and the black part of the syringe is normal and will not affect the result. (The normal layer of air you should see is 0.1ml).
4. Begin adding aquarium water to the test bottle, one drop at a time, swirling a little after each drop until the solution appears purple in color
Caution: before using the test vial, make sure it is washed with osmosis water only and dried with soft paper.
- If the test vial solution does not reach this color and you have used all the aquarium water in the syringe, go back to step 3 (this means that the magnesium concentration is below 970ppm).
- If, after adding 1.00 ml of water a second time, the color does not change, it means that the magnesium concentration is below 360 ppm.
A faster test can be performed without the plastic tip with a potential error of 2%.
5. Note the position of the black lower end of the syringe (each division is 0.01ml) and obtain the magnesium concentration from Table 1. Readings should be taken at the position of the lower end of the rubber black from the syringe.
- If you had to go back to step 3 a second time, use table 2 to get the magnesium concentration. Normal magnesium concentrations are between 1280 and 1540 ppm (depending on salinity).
The result is accurate when the calcium concentration is between 350 and 450 ppm. If the calcium concentration is not in this range, you can correct the result from this table:
