How to use Proaquatest GH?

Color test: Put the test water in a plastic test tube and drop the reagent until the red turns green. Number of drops = total hardness.

Application: For new impoundments: once a day for the first week, then once a week.

For healthy water:

The correct water value for an aquarium / pond depends on the fish and existing vegetation. Even if the water is clear, it can be contaminated. If the parameters are incorrect, diseases and algae can develop in aquariums and ponds. In healthy ponds and aquariums under natural conditions, it is important to regularly check and adjust the water quality.
JBL offers rapid or color tests for all water analyses. These tests calculate a specific parameter or several parameters at the same time. They identify algae problems and negative parameters such as nitrates, nitrites, potassium and magnesium.

Why test?

Depending on the origin and nature of the subsoil, the water may contain more or less significant quantities of alkaline-earth salts. These are usually calcium or magnesium salts. The total calcium and magnesium ions represent the total hardness. Overall hardness is around 8-20°dH and most fish are easy to care for, but you should be careful to take appropriate measures to reduce overall hardness which is too high.

Regular checks for a healthy pond or aquarium and living conditions close to the natural environment. Enter your water parameters in the JBL Lab online and you'll get an in-depth analysis of those numbers in seconds.

Recommended total hardness

  • Freshwater aquarium (community): 8-25°dGH Malawi-Tanganyika aquarium: 5-20°dGH
  • Planted aquarium with few fish (aquascaping): 3-10 °dGH
  • Saltwater aquarium: not measurable with the GH test, because it is too high. Test calcium and magnesium separately.
  • Pelvis: 6-20°dGH
