Milwaukee MA9016 is a laboratory-grade cleaning solution for pH and ORP electrodes , specially formulated to remove deposits that can interfere with measurements. It effectively cleans the sensitive bulb of pH electrodes, the platinum tip of ORP probes, and their junction. Regular maintenance helps maintain faster, more accurate, and reproducible measurements , while also helping to extend electrode life. The solution is prepared according to precise standards in a controlled environment and packaged in an airtight bottle that protects its contents from light and air. The 230 ml size is suitable for both portable testers and electrodes used with laboratory equipment.
A pH or ORP electrode is a sensitive measuring element that remains in direct contact with the samples being analyzed. Over time, mineral, organic, or other residue deposits can accumulate on the active parts of the probe. Even when barely visible, these deposits can slow the electrode's response or cause less stable measurements .
For a pH electrode, the cleanliness of the glass bulb plays a crucial role in measurement quality. For an ORP electrode, it is the surface of the platinum tip that must remain clean. In both cases, the reference junction must also allow for proper exchange with the solution being measured. A partially obstructed junction can lead to a slow response, unstable values, or difficulty in obtaining reproducible measurements.
The Milwaukee MA9016 is specifically designed to clean the sensitive parts of pH and ORP electrodes . It acts on the measuring surfaces while helping to keep the junction clear, two essential points for the proper functioning of an electrochemical probe.
It is therefore a maintenance product to be used periodically, but also when an electrode begins to exhibit unusual behavior: longer stabilization time, difficult-to-reproduce values, or less consistent calibration. Before replacing a probe that seems to be losing performance, proper cleaning often allows you to verify if the problem is simply due to fouling.
Using the MA9016 remains simple. Just pour enough solution into a clean beaker or small container so that the sensor and electrode junction are completely immersed . The electrode should then be left in the solution for approximately 15 to 20 minutes .
Once cleaning is complete, Milwaukee recommends placing the electrode in MA9015 preservation solution for at least two hours . This step allows the electrode to be properly rehydrated after cleaning and to be in optimal condition before use or calibration.
The cleaning solution should ideally not be returned to the original bottle. This precaution prevents the new solution from being gradually contaminated with residues removed from the electrode.
Calibration performed with a dirty electrode can give the impression that the device is correctly calibrated, even though the probe is no longer responding optimally. To obtain consistent results, it is therefore recommended to work with a clean, properly hydrated, and well-maintained electrode before proceeding with calibration.
The Milwaukee MA9016 does not replace the buffer solutions used to calibrate a pH meter. Its role is different: it serves to restore the measuring surface to optimal conditions before calibration or measurement . It thus integrates seamlessly into a maintenance routine that includes cleaning, storage, and calibration with appropriate solutions.
The MA9016 can be used with compatible pH and ORP electrodes, electronic testers, portable pH meters, and laboratory equipment . It is particularly useful when probes are used regularly or in environments that may leave deposits on their surface.
In aquariums, laboratories, or for monitoring technical solutions, electrodes can be exposed to salts, organic matter, or various compounds that can accumulate over time. Regular maintenance helps maintain more reliable measurements and prevents simple probe contamination from being mistakenly interpreted as a device malfunction.
Milwaukee prepares this solution according to precise standards in a dedicated, temperature-controlled environment . This process ensures a consistent composition from bottle to bottle, suitable for maintaining measuring electrodes.
The packaging is also designed to preserve the solution during storage. The bottle is protected from light, hermetically sealed, and equipped with a tamper-evident cap . Each unit bears a batch number and an expiration date, facilitating product tracking and monitoring of its usage period.
After cleaning with MA9016, the electrode should not be allowed to dry. For electrodes requiring moist storage, Milwaukee recommends using MA9015 storage solution for at least two hours after cleaning . This phase properly prepares the probe for its next use.
A well-maintained electrode should be cleaned when necessary, stored in a suitable solution, and regularly calibrated. This simple routine helps preserve its response speed, stability, and the reliability of measurements over the long term.
