Molybdenum Supplement for Marine Aquariums: Controlled Chemistry and Nitrates

Molybdenum (Mo) acts as a cofactor for several enzymes involved in the nitrogen cycle , including those involved in nitrate reduction . Too low a concentration can disrupt these metabolic pathways and, over time, degrade the stability of the reef. With ATI ICP Element Molybdenum , the supply is simple, reproducible and designed to preserve the safety of marine organisms while maximizing the efficiency of the biological system.

The dosing schedule is clear: 1 ml per 100 L increases by 6 µg/L . To avoid sudden variations, the maximum recommended increase is 12 µg/L per day (i.e. 2 ml/100 L). This precision facilitates fine adjustments after ICP analysis such as daily supplementation , maintaining the target level without exceeding it.

Why does a deficiency occur? Several factors combine: bacterial consumption (e.g., during denitrification phases), low content in certain sea salts , and adsorption by filter media such as zeolite or iron-based anti-phosphate media (GFO). Under these conditions, a dedicated supply of molybdenum helps restore balance and sustainably support the microbiological activity of live rock.
