AQUA MEDIC Qube 60.2: Powerful LED lighting for reef aquariums

THE Aqua Medic Qube 60.2 This LED light is specially developed to meet the needs of marine and reef aquariums. Despite its particularly compact housing, it has a high light output, allowing it to effectively illuminate soft corals, LPS and SPS corals, provided its intensity and positioning are correctly adjusted.

Its maximum power 60 W allows it to cover an area of approximately 50 x 50 cm. It therefore represents a very interesting solution for equipping a nano reef aquarium without installing a bulky light fixture. It can also be used as supplementary lighting in a larger aquarium, for example to enhance one end of the tank, illuminate a shaded area, or provide more light to a group of demanding corals.

This versatility allows the installation to be adapted to the shape of the aquarium and the layout of the decor. Several Qube 60.2 spotlights can therefore be installed side by side to obtain wider coverage while retaining the ability to precisely adjust each light point.

A chip with 25 LEDs and seven colors to highlight the corals

The heart of the Qube 60.2 is based on a chip composed of 25 individual LED elements. These combine seven carefully selected colors to produce a spectrum suitable for reef aquariums: white, royal blue, blue, cyan, ultraviolet, violet and red.

The white LED of 9,000 K It provides clear light, creating a natural-looking aquarium. The blue wavelengths of 450, 460, and 470 nm contribute to the deep, luminous appearance typical of marine aquariums, while also highlighting the fluorescence of corals. The 410 nm UV and 420 nm violet LEDs enhance the fluorescent hues of many coral pigments.

A 660nm red LED completes the spectrum. When properly dosed, it balances the overall effect and brings out certain warm colors found in fish and corals. The system offers customizable lighting, capable of producing both a natural white light and a much bluer ambiance at the end of the day.

More than 40% of the light radiation is located between 400 and 480 nm, This range is particularly important for photosynthetic pigments associated with zooxanthellae living in coral tissues. The Qube 60.2 therefore not only enhances the aquarium: its spectrum has also been designed to meet the biological needs of a reef environment.

A high PAR to support coral growth

With a projected PAR that can reach 2,350 µmol/m²/s in the immediate vicinity of the source, The Qube 60.2 boasts a high light density for a spotlight of its size. This power reserve allows it to meet the needs of demanding corals, but it also means that the intensity must be carefully adjusted.

The PAR actually received by corals depends on many factors: the height of the light, the depth of the aquarium, water transparency, surface movement, beam orientation, the placement of decorations, and the settings of the various channels. Therefore, the maximum value does not correspond to the intensity received throughout the entire tank.

When installing the Qube 60.2 above an already stocked aquarium, it is advisable to start with a moderate power output and then gradually increase it. This acclimation period reduces the risk of light stress, shrinkage, or discoloration in corals accustomed to less intense lighting.

Individual lenses for precise light distribution

Each LED in the Qube 60.2 is paired with an individual lens. This design allows for better control of the beam direction and blends the different colors before they reach the aquarium. The result is a more homogeneous image, with less visible separation between the different hues.

The lenses also concentrate the light energy onto the area to be illuminated. The spotlight can therefore be positioned precisely above the reef aquascape, a central island, or a group of corals. This feature is particularly useful in aquariums with unusual dimensions or where certain areas are less well covered by the main lighting.

The positioning of the spotlight remains important for achieving even coverage. If installed too close to the surface, it will produce a highly concentrated light with greater contrast between the center and edges. Placed higher, its beam will cover a wider area and offer a smoother light transition.

CoralSync app: control your lighting from your smartphone

The Qube 60.2 is controlled via the new app CoralSync, Available on iOS and Android devices. Aqua Medic designed this interface to offer truly useful everyday functions, without multiplying complicated settings or difficult-to-understand menus.

Thanks to dual connectivity Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi, The spotlight can be detected, integrated, and programmed directly from a smartphone or tablet. The user can adjust the different light channels, modify the overall intensity, and create a program adapted to the natural rhythm of the aquarium.

Bluetooth connectivity simplifies setup near the bin, while Wi-Fi integration allows for more comprehensive management via the app. This combination ensures quick commissioning while maintaining modern and scalable operation.

CoralSync is designed to become the common interface for several devices in the Aqua Medic range. The Qube 60.2 can thus be integrated into a connected environment where different devices can gradually be brought together within a single application.

Programming of light cycles and six LED channels

The Qube 60.2 has six controllable light channels. This organization allows for the customization of the spectrum and intensity according to aesthetic preferences, the species kept, and the different phases of the day.

The programming can replicate a gradual increase in light intensity in the morning, a period of full power during the day, and then a gentle decrease in the evening. This avoids sudden changes that could startle the fish and creates a more natural effect than a simple instantaneous switch-on.

Independent channel adjustment also allows for fine-tuning the visual temperature of the light. A higher proportion of white provides a bright and natural aquarium, while increased royal blue, violet, and UV enhances coral fluorescence. However, the settings must remain balanced to maintain an intensity suitable for the animals.

Multiple Qube 60.2 lamps can be controlled from CoralSync. This feature is particularly useful for large aquariums requiring multiple light sources. Each spotlight can be adjusted according to the area it illuminates, allowing you to take into account the height of the aquascape and the needs of different corals.

A compact LED spotlight for nano aquariums and supplementary lighting

With a case of approximately 90 x 90 x 80 mm, The Qube 60.2 remains very discreet above the aquarium. Its cubic shape avoids the imposing visual effect of some large lights and leaves the top of the tank relatively uncluttered.

This compact size is ideal for nano reef aquariums, where space is often limited. The spotlight packs significant power into a device weighing only about 870 grams with its stand.

In a larger aquarium, the Qube 60.2 can also be used as supplementary lighting. For example, it can compensate for a dark area created by a central support, illuminate the end of a long tank, or add localized power above SPS corals placed at a height.

Adjustable rear stand for precise positioning of the Qube 60.2

The Qube 60.2 comes with a flexibly adjustable rear support. This allows the spotlight to be kept above the aquarium while adjusting its position according to the shape of the tank, the height of the decoration and the surface to be covered.

This system makes it easy to direct the beam towards the desired area without having to modify the entire installation. It thus becomes possible to refocus the light on a rocky outcrop, move it slightly away from the front window, or limit direct lighting of the walls to reduce their light exposure.

Before installation, it is necessary to check the compatibility of the mounting bracket with the thickness, shape, and any reinforcements of the tank. The spotlight must be securely fixed and placed away from direct splashes, even if its IP rating is [insert protection rating here]. IPX4 allows it to withstand the common splashes around the aquarium.

Silent internal fan and active LED cooling

The Qube 60.2's high light output generates heat. To maintain the LEDs at a suitable operating temperature, Aqua Medic has integrated a silent internal fan.

This active cooling helps maintain light stability and component lifespan. It also allows for a compact case without the need for a particularly bulky heat sink.

The fan has been designed to remain discreet in a home environment. To maintain proper airflow, the air inlets and outlets must not be obstructed. A significant accumulation of dust around the openings could reduce cooling efficiency and increase operating noise.
