The PARwise PRO from ITC Reef Culture is more than just a PAR meter. Designed for reef aquarists, it offers ultra-precise analysis of the light useful to corals thanks to its revolutionary cPUR (Coral Photosynthetically Usable Radiation) technology. Unlike previous tools that only measured overall light intensity, this technological gem distinguishes what corals can actually use for their growth. The result? Optimal growth rates , healthy corals and confident light adjustments. In addition, it measures an expanded spectrum from 350 to 1100nm , including UV-A and infrared zones, for a complete view of your lighting. In short, an essential tool for any aquarist who cares about their corals.
The PARwise PRO was born from a simple observation: having a lot of light is not enough to grow corals. This light also needs to be in the right wavelengths and with the right intensity. With the cPUR, this PAR meter goes further than anything that existed until now. It automatically filters out ineffective wavelengths to keep only those that corals actually use. Say goodbye to the misleading values of classic PAR: you get precise, targeted data that can be directly used for your lighting settings.
The built-in graph compares your light spectrum (e.g., from a Kessil light) to the absorption curves of coral pigments. The result: you immediately see what's useful... and what isn't. With this clear and intuitive visual readout, you can adjust your spectrum without fumbling.
The green background in the graph above represents the absorption range of chlorophyll and coral color pigments. The blue spectrum (measured light – a Kessil ) is compared to it, including the brightness level, to obtain the CPUR value. Light outside the optimal range is ignored in the result.
The PARwise PRO doesn't stop there. It can now measure a spectrum ranging from 350 nm (near UV-A) to 1100 nm (infrared) . What does that mean? Not only do you capture all the wavelengths important for photosynthesis, but you can also capture those that generate heat (and therefore energy loss). You can even visualize the yellow light and heat of a flame! A considerable advancement for enthusiasts who want to know everything about their lighting installation.
You may have heard of DLI (Daily Light Integral), which is based on traditional PAR. Well, the PARwise PRO replaces it advantageously with cPUR Light Integral . This measurement calculates the amount of light actually usable by corals over a given period . In other words, you no longer just know how much light there is, but whether it is really effective over time. It's the perfect tool for fine-tuning your photoperiods and naturally boosting your corals' growth.
Every coral saved or that grows better thanks to optimal settings is an investment that pays off. No more costly trial and error when it comes to fragile corals. The PARwise PRO offers peace of mind, concrete results, and the assurance that your lighting is working for you, not against your corals. In short, for any serious aquarist, this device quickly becomes a must-have.
