The refractometer is a precision optical instrument for the exact determination of the amount of salt in seawater aquariums. A few drops allow the determination of the salt concentration in a few seconds. It can be read either as absolute quantity of salt (salinity) in ‰, ppt or as density (kg/l). The principle of operation is based on the determination of the refractive index of light. This depends directly on the amount of salt in the solution.
